8th January 2011: OWE 2 – 0 Southport Amateurs

 

After a prolonged weather enforced break during which the team had topped up their tans on trips to the Caribbean with their WAGs – although George was still relaxing in sunny Scotland – OWE were keen to start the New Year with a win. But they had to work hard for it with Southport putting up determined opposition and threatening at all times throughout the game.

 

It didn’t start as a tough match with an early goal from Marcus who continued his run of goals back-heeling a looping throw in into the net – 1-0. After that the chances just didn’t seem to fall for OWE. Shots went wide. A header hit the bar. Then Southport were forcing saves on the counter-attack and an equaliser looked imminent. Whatever New Year’s resolutions the team had made, having some concern for the heart conditions of the OWE faithful was not one of them.

 

It wasn’t until towards that end of the second half when Harvey ran down the right wing and crossed to Scott who was most certainly in the right “areas”, that the game was put beyond reach and a collective sigh of relief went up from the touchline with the score ending 2-0.
