22nd January 2010: OWE 2 – 0 Litherland Tigers

 

Starting line-up: B, J, J, R, H, P & S. Subs: G & L.

 

Whilst OWE have been getting the points to maintain their position at top of the table, the score lines have not been convincing. Teams OWE are beating are beating the other teams OWE are beating by more than OWE are beating them by. Get it? This match was no different.

 

It was slow start for OWE with the Tigers threatening early and their No 8 creating problems down right wing but then Harvey struck a shot that was tipped onto the bar by the keeper and Scott was waiting to bag the rebound 1 – 1-0. Everyone started to relax and wait for the flood of goal scoring that was bound to follow. But it didn’t.

 

All the passing and skillaging of Wednesday night’s training seemed a distant memory as OWE struggled to increase the lead. R & H came off for G & L. G had a shot go over the bar. G put the ball just wide after receiving a long ball from L. The manager effected even more changes putting R & H up front in place of S and G but it stayed 1-0 at half-time with little to cheer about.

 

S, G, R, H , L & JF started out for the second half and eventually the second goal came when the ball was intercepted and passed to Scott on the right wing. His cross went straight to George Harrison – 2-0. And so it stayed despite further substitutions (R & H off/G & J on; G & J off/R & H on) with the last near chance coming to Scott whose left footed shot found the side netting. OWE will need to be on their mettle next Saturday against a resurgent second placed Northfield.
