15th October 2011: OWE 3 – 0 TMS

It was with a certain amount of trepidation that the OWE faithful approached this game against an unbeaten TMS. A mid-week battering at the hands of Hayden Dale’s all stars did little to raise expectation levels as OWE struggled to find the form that had served them so well in previous seasons.

 

Fortunately the fears were soon banished as the team turned in a vintage performance with a welcome return to a game that combined neat passing, close marking and sharp keeping (from Ben – for it is he!). However this was not before TMS had threatened to take the lead early on more than one occasion – twice Scott cleared shots from the line at the far post following corners. The first goal came shortly before half-time when Robert spotted the TMS keeper off his line and hit a long shot that the keeper could not keep out, palming into the net.

 

Robert doubled his tally in the second half with another looping effort that beat TMS’s second keeper to make it 2-0. TMS countered and nearly earned a penalty but the defending of, variously, Lewis, JD and JF was resolute. GH and LC battled hard in midfield and M, S and GP applied good pressure up front with GP unlucky not to score. Goal 3 came with Harvey finding “top bin” with a free kick from close to the half way line.

 

A much needed return to form for OWE that will hopefully be maintained in the games to come if chances of winning the title are to recover.
